1987 Australia Day Australian Made

$0.36

The Australian Made campaign was launched on 31 August 1986. The aim of the campaign was to urge people to buy products made in Australia rather than imports. The display of the Australian Made logo is synonymous with identifying products manufactured locally and is still in use today. (In 2020 it was redesigned with the letter AU imposed onto a Golden Wattle, our national flower, however, it was meant with fierce backlash, and critics likened it to look like a virus. It was subsequently dropped.)

This stamp design specially came from a request by then Prime Minister Bob Hawke for a stamp to highlight the Australian Made campaign.
